To assist our patients after hours, we have partnered up with a Tele medicine company that originated in Canada called Smart.Vet. Smart.Vet allows you access to an Ontario Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT) over the phone at any time. The RVT’s will speak with you and guide you in determining the level of care that your pet needs. This may include setting up an appointment with a licensed Ontario veterinarian if necessary. If your pet requires critical in-person care, the RVT will identify this and facilitate the transfer to a facility nearby.

You can reach the Smart.Vet RVTs at 647-695-5411. The call and any assistance from the RVTs are free of charge. If you schedule a consultation with a virtual veterinarian, there will be a consultation fee, along with an additional service charge if medication is prescribed.

You also have the ability to book directly with a Smart.Vet veterinarian by visiting this link. Once you have created an account, you can decide to send in a message or request a phone / video call. When you’ve submitted a phone / video request, a veterinarian will reach out to you as soon as they’re available.

During your virtual consultation, the veterinarian will further assess your pet. This may mean requesting a video or photos to aid in the process. This veterinarian may be able to prescribe certain medications for your pet which would allow you to avoid the unnecessary cost and travel time for an after-hours in-person visit. Their records and treatment will be sent to our clinic the next business day so that we can proceed with any follow-up or further treatment required.

At the end of your consultation, if the virtual veterinarian believes that your pet should be seen in clinic, they will arrange a transfer to the facility most suitable to your pet’s expected level of care and provide you with further instructions. When a transfer is facilitated, Smart.Vet will provide a reduced consultation fee.
