Dr. Birgit Degen, DVM
Veterinarian

Dr. Birgit Degen graduated from the University of Guelph with Honours in Bachelor of Science and a minor in Nutritional Sciences in 1995 and a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from the Ontario Veterinary College in 2000.

After graduation, she moved to Muskoka and started her career in a mixed animal clinic, where she provided medical care to large animals, small animals, exotics and wildlife.  In 2003, she had the opportunity to work for Huronia Emergency Clinic in Barrie working in emergency medicine until a position became available to return to Muskoka to focus on small animal medicine and surgery.

Following her work as an associate veterinarian for 23 years, Dr. Degen opened Trillium Lakes Animal Hospital in Bracebridge on June 21st, 2022.  Her medical interests include soft tissue surgery and medicine, urgent care services and veterinary spinal manipulation therapy.

Dr. Degen currently has a German Shorthair pointer, a domestic shorthair cat and a horse. When she is not at the clinic, Dr. Degen enjoys spending time with her animals and family while going hiking, camping, skijoring, cross country running, paddle boarding, cycling, horseback riding and swimming.  She has also participated in half and full marathons.  When she is not busy participating in sports, she likes to spend time behind the camera, focusing on sport related events, wildlife and landscapes.
